Founded in 2000, ZOPAR Exports Pvt. Ltd. (ZEPL) began as a fresh cut-flower trading company in Bangalore. Today, it stands as the largest flower producer in Northeast India, with farms located in Mizoram and Meghalaya. The name ZOPAR, meaning “flowers of the hills” in Mizo, reflects our deep connection to the land and people of the region.
Our farms in Vaipuanpho, Ailawng (near Aizawl) and Umsaitsning, Ribhoi District (near Shillong) were strategically chosen for their ideal agro-climatic conditions. These farms are managed by seasoned floriculture professionals with over 20 years of experience in high-tech flower production.
We are committed to ethical employment practices, having a majority of our farm workforce comprises local tribal women. At our Aizawl farm, workers receive free housing with access to amenities like clean water, playgrounds, and school transport. ZEPL also works closely with international breeders and propagation companies to ensure we stay up-to-date with the latest flower varieties and growing techniques.
Between 2005 and 2017, ZEPL led numerous Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) floriculture projects across Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Assam, and other northeastern states. These included cultivation of anthurium, bird of paradise, carnation, rose, chrysanthemum, orchids, and more. ZEPL provided turnkey solutions including greenhouse construction, planting materials, and a 100% buy-back arrangement, empowering over 1,000 farmers.
Many of these projects were supported by the Horticulture Mission and RKVY programs under the Government of India, resulting in the establishment of Centres of Excellence in floriculture in the region.
Rajesh Prasad, co-founder and Managing Director, is a pioneer in Indian floriculture with over 30 years of experience. In 2004, he was also involved in establishing a major floriculture project in Ethiopia, one of the world’s top locations for rose cultivation.
(Late) Ms. Lianzami Leivang, co-founder, was a dedicated agriculturalist who served over 28 years in the Department of Soil Conservation, Government of Meghalaya. After retirement, she turned her passion for flowers into a thriving business. She was instrumental in developing bud-caps, an innovation that improved the bud size and vase life of roses, now widely adopted in the industry. She played a key role in managing ZEPL’s retail network across the Northeast and championed sustainable floriculture practices in the region.
